Paul is a tried-and-true Texan. He grew up working alongside his parents, the founders of Messina Hof, in the Estate vineyard and now dedicates his time to crafting award-winning Texas wines as a seventh-generation winemaker.

In 2005, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from The United States Naval Academy and was commissioned as a United States Marine Corps Officer where he served on Active Duty. Paul served two deployments to combat zones in Iraq as an Operations Officer over Al Anbar Province for the Second Marine Expeditionary Force (II MEF) as well as an overseas assignment in Nigeria.

After serving, Paul returned to Messina Hof and worked as Operations Manager from 2010 to 2012 where he managed all aspects of sales and operations. He took over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Winemaker in 2012, and since that time, Messina Hof has more than doubled in size and has expanded to four winery locations in Texas.

In 2013, he received a certificate of Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis. He has earned the Level 3 Award from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET). He was also awarded the title of Master Knight from the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine in recognition of his dedication to Texas wine.

Paul served on the board of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association (TWGGA), and he was elected in 2018 to be the President of TWGGA and Chairman of the Legislative Committee. He oversaw all aspects of marketing, sales, and legislative support of Texas wine both at the state and national level. From 2014 to 2018 he served on the Experience Bryan College Station Board of Directors, and he currently serves on the Texas Department of Agriculture Wine Advisory Council, guiding state funding and support of the Texas wine industry.

Midnight Yell is a sweet dessert wine with full body and aromas of cocoa and butterscotch. Fruit flavors of marmalade and ripe cherries round out the senses, leaving a beautiful finish that lingers like the ever-present Spirit of Aggieland on full display at every Midnight Yell.

Our Sparkling Sagrantino offers a delightful twist on this unique grape. The bubbles soften its structured character and present notes of red plum and black tea, culminating in a crisp, clean, and refreshingly dry finish. 

Sparkling Rosé is a dry sparkling wine that excites with lively flavors of fresh strawberry, pomegranate, and cranberry layered with notes of bright citrus and a crisp, delicate finish. 

Messina Hof's Sparkling Wines are made through the traditional method, or méthode traditionelle, which means the transformation from a still wine to a sparkling wine is done entirely inside the bottle through its secondary fermentation. Texas grapes matched with this old-world method creates a complex and delicious wine. 

This vintage of Chenin Blanc is a dry white wine that is bright and airy with bold notes of lemongrass, pear, and honeysuckle. Its depth of flavor lingers on the palate giving it weight and acidity that goes beautifully with lobster, garlic butter sauces, and vegetarian dishes.

Trebbiano Blend

This dry white blend has delicate aromas of honeysuckle and white flowers. Crisp citrus flavors and bright acidity are complemented by smooth tropical flavors and medium body.

Our Hill Country exclusive Papa Paulo Port is a rich traditional-style port with youthful flavors of chocolate covered cherries and vanilla. The brandy fortification introduces a unique and subtle bite of cinnamon and anise. The Lenoir grapes in this exclusive Papa Paulo Port are grown in the Messina Hof Hill Country estate vineyard.

This Tempranillo has bold dark cherry and plum flavors with soft aromas of dried leaves and sandalwood from oak aging. These grapes are grown at 3700 feet elevation in the Texas High Plains and fermented on the skin for 20 days then aged in hybrid barrels for twelve months. This gives the wine a rustic and robust character that matches the Texas spirit. 

Sagrantino-Sangiovese Blend

A bold blend of traditional Italian varieties (Sagrantino, Sangiovese, and Primitivo), this wine has rustic nuances of herbs and spice with aromas of smoked meats. Dynamic flavors of tart cherry and stewed tomatoes complement the stronger tannins giving this wine an elegant complexity.
