Perissos Vineyard & WineryPape Blanc

Winemaker Brent’s top award winning Rhone blend is back, and the 2023 vintage is better than ever! Pape Blanc marries the stone fruit and white flower aromatics of Viognier with the rich, honeyed body of Marsanne and the clean golden apple and pear hints of Roussanne to create a wonderfully complex, balanced white wine. The medium gold color compliments a nose of honeysuckle, peach, apricot, pear and honey with warm spice notes. The mouth feel is full and viscous with medium acidity. Essences of tree and stone fruit are balanced by citrus rind, honeycomb and baking spice from oak and Acacia aging. The finish is clean and lingering with peach, citrus rind and honey. Rich shellfish and seafood dishes, creamy chicken preparations and tagines are natural accompaniments.

Perissos Vineyard & Winery Aglianico Press Fraction Bottle Preview
Perissos Vineyard & WineryAglianico Press Fraction

We’re excited to release our first Estate Aglianico, finished from the portion of fermented juice that has been mechanically pressed from the skins and seeds. Press fraction wines are so named because the portion of juice pressed from the crush must be skillfully managed to extract smooth tannins and color elements while avoiding bitter compounds released when mechanical pressure is excessive – only a fraction of the available pressure is employed. This wine is a testament to great wine making skill, exhibiting a rich ruby color and a nose full of fresh red and black cherry and red plum fruit, with nuances of red flower, vanilla, caramel and baking spice. On the palate, the wine compliments the fresh red fruit aromatics with a lively acidity, a full mouth feel and a robust yet smooth tannin structure. The finish is long, clean and satisfying. Our Press Fraction Aglianico awaits pairings with grilled red meats, barbeque, savory charcuterie and bold, hard cheeses as well as classic Italian tomato sauced dishes.

Aglianico is typically associated with full bodied, well-structured and ageable red wines. This rose reveals another side of Aglianico, a lighter and crisper style created by the Saignee method which utilizes fully ripe fruit and brief skin contact during fermentation. The result is a stunning medium copper – salmon color wine that welcomes you with a nose full of fresh strawberry, grapefruit and orange rind, with melon and white flower notes. On the palate, the experience is light and refreshing with the fruit and floral aromatics of the nose lifted by a bright acidity and subtle pear hints. The finish is clean, making Aglianico Rose an excellent pairing for a wide variety of foods ranging from raw shellfish through soft cheeses, salads and seafood, chicken and lighter pork entrees.

Perissos Vineyard & Winery Montepulciano Bottle Preview
Perissos Vineyard & WineryMontepulciano

Montepulciano is one of Italy’s most cultivated wine grapes, but only recently has it become recognized as one of the country’s finest as well. Our perennially popular 2021 High Plains Montepulciano exceeds expectations with its deep ruby color and full nose of plum, blackberry, dry thyme, tobacco, cocoa and vanilla notes. On the palate, the aromatics are confirmed with rounded tannins, a bright acidity and a medium mouth feel followed by a clean, savory finish. Some Italian versions of this wine can be quite rustic, but there is a nuance and delicacy here – in part due to two years of barrel aging - that creates a wonderful sipping wine as well as the classic accompaniment to Roman dishes such as Pasta Carbonara and Bucatini all’Amatriciana as well as a variety of tomato sauce based entrees, grilled and braised red meats, salumi and savory cheeses.

Portejas has returned, and the 2018 vintage of our fortified dessert wine is proving well worth the wait! This Portejas has been barrel aged for six years, a long oxidative aging that has produced a wonderfully complex, robust and satisfying end-of-meal (or anytime) sipping experience. The hue is a deep tawny garnet, and the pronounced nose explodes with caramel, coffee, chocolate, fig, walnut, raisin and black fruit hints. On the palate, the wine is medium sweet, with a substantial, syrupy mouth- feel confirming the aromatics balanced by bright acidity, ample alcohol warmth and a long, rich caramel toffee finish. A beautiful accompaniment to hard cheeses like aged gouda, gruyere and cheddar and a full variety of desserts, especially crème brulee and chocolate dishes. Serve slightly below room temperature.

Perissos Vineyard & WineryPrimitivo Free Run

We’re excited to introduce our first Primitivo wine! This wine is made with the un-pressed, free-run portion of the fermented juice to produce a slightly lighter, smoother taste profile which is further integrated by two years of barrel aging. The nose offers a fresh fruit mix of strawberry, blackberry, cherry, and brambly red fruit jam, lifted with spicy notes of clove, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, the pronounced fruit and spice signature is confirmed, accompanied by a full mouthfeel, medium plus acidity and rounded tannins, then followed by a spicy, earthy finish. This bold, satisfying wine is a natural accompaniment for grilled red meats and barbecues, tomato sauce based Italian dishes and aged, rich cheeses such as smoked gouda, Asiago and Gorgonzola.

Perissos Vineyard & WineryPrimitivo Press Fraction

Our Free Run Primitivo has been a big hit, so we’re delighted to release the Press Fraction portion of the 2022 vintage. This wine is made from the juice that is released from the fermented grapes in a pneumatic press. This method adds some additional tannin structure and flavor richness to the wine, which is smoothed by two years of barrel aging. The color is a brilliant medium ruby – garnet, and the nose invites you with a full bouquet of blackberry, plum, blueberry, strawberry and brambly aromas enhanced by warm baking spice notes. On the palate, these pronounced fruit and spice notes are confirmed, complimented by a full mouth feel, grippy tannins and medium plus acidity. The finish is long and full of fruit, spice and smoky bramble notes. Barbequed, grilled and smoked meats are perfect accompaniments for Press Fraction Primitivo, as are tomato sauce based and spicy dishes and rich cheeses.
